NHL: Detroit 3, Ottawa 2

OTTAWA, Oct. 12 (UPI) --

Johan Franzen scored two third-period goals Saturday night, helping the Detroit Red Wings record a 3-2 win over the Ottawa Senators.

Franzen's first goal at 11:16 of the third produced a 2-2 tie. His second goal, at 18:43 after assists by Brian Rafalski and Henrik Zetterberg, gave Detroit the victory and a split of its first two games this season.

Zetterberg had two assists and goaltender Chris Osgood made 20 saves on 22 Ottawa shots.

Detroit broke a two-game losing streak against the Senators, and the Red Wings have taken seven of the last 10 meetings between the clubs overall.

The Senators got one goal each from Alexandre Picard (power play) and Nick Foligno (unassisted).

Ottawa goaltender Martin Gerber was beaten three times on 41 Detroit shots.
