Pakistani movie actor Munir dead at 70

LAHORE, Pakistan, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Pakistani movie actor Badir Munir, who contended with kidney and diabetes ailments the past five years, has died after suffering a heart attack. He was 70.

Munir, who died Saturday at a Lahore hospital, had performed in 416 movies during a three-decade career that peaked in the 1970s and '80s, Dawn reported Sunday.

The one-time rickshaw driver got his start in the movie industry as a lighting technician at a studio in Karachi. Actor Waheed Murad got him his first acting job in 1970 when he was cast as a hero in "Yousaf Khan Shehar Bano" opposite heroine Yasmeen Khan.

Munir was married twice and had eight children.

McCain set to appear on 'Letterman'

NEW YORK, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- U.S. Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain is set to appear on "Late Show with David Letterman," CBS said Sunday.

The network said McCain has agreed to be a guest on Thursday's edition of the show.

This will mark his first appearance on "Late Show" since he canceled his Sept. 24 appearance at the last minute, a move that provided much grist for the Letterman joke mill.

Letterman said at the time that McCain personally called him and told him he was "racing back to Washington" to help out with the country's economic crisis. However, Letterman said he discovered during the show McCain was, in fact, not heading to the airport, but instead sitting down for an interview with Couric for CBS News.

Letterman then broadcast the live feed of the interview on his show, talking over it and saying things like, "Need a ride to the airport?"

The Arizona senator's visit to the program this week -- his 13th -- marks his first "Late Show" appearance since he formally accepted his party's nomination at the Republican National Convention Sept. 4.

He announced his candidacy for president on the "Late Show" Feb. 28, 2007, CBS said.

Report: Lopez & Anthony renew their vows

LAS VEGAS, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, who have been married for four years and are the parents of twins, reportedly renewed their wedding vows in Las Vegas Sunday.

A representative for Caesars Palace told People magazine the singers reaffirmed their commitment to each other at the hotel's Forum Tower Penthouse at 3:15 a.m., following a night at Pure Nightclub.

"It was totally a spur-of-the-moment thing," a source told People. "They decided around 12:30 in the morning that they wanted to do it and started calling for ministers."

Lopez gave birth to son Max and daughter Emme Feb. 22. Although the twins are the couple's first children together, Anthony has three other children from previous relationships.

Jonas Brothers booked for Cowboys' game

PHOENIX, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- The Jonas Brothers have agreed to perform live in a nationally televised halftime show at the Dallas Cowboys' Thanksgiving Day game, it was announced Sunday.

The game is to be shown on Fox Nov. 27.

The pop band's performance will officially kick off the 2008 Salvation Army Red Kettle Christmas campaign, which runs through Dec. 24.

Since the partnership between the charity and the football team began in 1997, the annual Red Kettle campaign has raised more than $1 billion, which the Salvation Army said has helped it serve 30 million people each year across the United States.

"I was born in Dallas, which makes performing with my brothers at the Cowboys' halftime on Thanksgiving an incredible honor," Nick Jonas said in a statement.

"This year, more than ever, the Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign will make a huge impact for families at Christmas and throughout the year. It's very important for us to give back," Joe Jonas added.

"There are no other artists more in touch with America's youth than Jonas Brothers," said Jerry Jones, the Cowboys' owner and general manager.
