Democrats want Wilson to apologize

WASHINGTON, Sept. 11 (UPI) --

Democratic officials say Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., should apologize again for his outburst while U.S. President Barack Obama addressed Congress.

The Hill reported Friday that Democratic officials want the South Carolina Republican to apologize on the House floor or face a vote on a "resolution of disapproval" next week. Wilson has already contacted the White House to issue a statement of apology for his comments and Obama has accepted it, CNN said.

"There was a violation of the rules of the House," said Brendan Daly, spokesman for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. "It needs to be resolved by an apology or a resolution."

After Obama stated Wednesday during a speech to a joint session to Congress that his proposed healthcare system would not cover illegal immigrants, Wilson responded by shouting "You lie!"

CNN reported in the wake of the congressional incident, Wilson asked for donations from his supporters on his Web site.

"On these issues, I will not be muzzled, I will speak up and speak loudly against this risky plan," Wilson said in an online plea released Thursday.

Following Wilson's outburst, his expected 2010 opponent, Rob Mille, raised $750,000 for his congressional campaign.
