Obama to rally for healthcare on Facebook

COLLEGE PARK, Md., Sept. 17 (UPI) --

Healthcare reform takes the interactive stage Thursday when President Barack Obama holds a rally at the University of Maryland in College Park.

Besides participants on-site, the rally will be streamed live via the White House's page on Facebook, the popular social network on the Internet, the White House said.

Through a Facebook application, Web viewers can watch the event and discuss it with others as it happens.

Also Thursday, Obama will award U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Jared C. Monti the medal of Honor posthumously for displaying "immeasurable courage and uncommon valor" by sacrificing his own life to help save a comrade in combat in Afghanistan, the White House said. Monti's parents, Paul and Janet Monti, will join Obama at the White House for the presentation.
