Hurricane Fay Projected Path

Tropical Storm Fay continues to be a threat for much of Florida. A tropical storm warning has been issued for the mainland of South Florida and officials have advised all Florida residents to secure their belongings ahead of the storm that could be a Category 1 hurricane before it makes landfall.

Forecasters have predicted the path of tropical storm Fay to move north along the southwest Florida Gulf Coast as a strong tropical storm and increase to a category one hurricane on Tuesday.

The first spiral bands from tropical storm Fay are currently moving through the Straits of Florida and are expected to move onshore to the mainlands of South Florida this morning.

Storm tides of 3-6 feet will be possible in Cape Sable areas of the Everglades National Park, especially around 4 PM today and tomorrow, when high tides occur. High winds and heavy rains could cause flooding in low laying areas. Much of the state is under various storm and flood warnings

The projected path of the storm could change, depending on ocean currents and other factors that can change at a moments notice.

The Florida Keys ordered a visitor evacuation yesterday ahead of the storm. Visitors that have high profile vehicles such as RV's were told to be off the Islands before noon today. Residents that live on their boats or in mobile homes were also advised to seek safe shelter.

Florida residents are urged to listen to local media for updates and news on Hurricane Fay and her projected path over the next 48 hours.
