Stephanie Birkitt - Letterman Scandal
Stephanie Birkett has been identified as the woman at the center of the David Letterman extortion scandal.
Stephanie Birkitt is a 1997 Wake Forest University graduate who was born in Plymouth, New Hampshire. She has known Letterman as far back as 1996 when she first worked as an interent on the "Late Show."

Birkitt then worked briefly for "48 Hours". That's where she is said to have met alleged Letterman extortioner and boyfriend Robert 'Joe' Halderman. She then joined the "Late Show."
Birkitt appeared on the "Late Show" mainly in sketches. Birkitt appeared with Letterman in numerous comic roles.
Letterman and Birkitt became lovers, a relationship which ended in 2003, according to sources.
Letterman announced the extortion attempt on last night's airing of the "Late Show."
