NEW YORK, Oct. 12 (UPI) --

Crude oil prices climbed above $73 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange Monday following a strong week on Wall Street.

The Dow Jones industrial average of blue-chip stock climbed modestly Monday, but added 377 points in the previous five trading sessions. The run up has given strength to commodities.

Light, sweet crude added $1.50 to $73.27 per barrel. Heating oil prices gained 0.0283 cents to $1.8944 per gallon. Reformulated gasoline gained 0.0176 cents to $1.799 per gallon. Natural gas prices rose 0.106 cents to $4.88 per million British thermal units.

At the pump, the national average price of unleaded gasoline was $2.482 per gallon Monday, up from Sunday's $2.479, AAA said.
