JERUSALEM, Oct. 13 (UPI) --
Israel accused Hezbollah of violating a U.N. resolution following the reported deaths of a Hezbollah official and his son in an explosion in south Lebanon.
Israel lodged a complaint with the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon and demanded an investigation of the incident, Haaretz said Tuesday.
Commenting on the incident, President Shimon Peres told Israel Radio Hezbollah is turning Lebanon into a barrel of explosives.
Initial reports said the explosion occurred Monday night in the home of a Hezbollah official in a village outside Tyre, in southern Lebanon.
Israeli military officials accused Hezbollah of violating U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701, which bars Hezbollah from using weapons or stockpiling them in areas south of the Litani River, the newspaper said.
The resolution was drawn up at the end of the Second Lebanon War between Israel and Hezbollah in 2006.
UNIFIL spokeswoman Yasmina Bouziane said the circumstances of the blast were under investigation, Ynetnews.com said.
There were conflicting reports regarding casualties in Monday night's explosion. Lebanese media reports claimed Abdel Nasser Issa and his son died in the explosion at their home, an alleged Hezbollah munitions dump.
Other media reports said five people were killed, the Web site said.
Some of the reports said Issa was handling an old rocket that exploded, The Daily Star said.
Hezbollah's al-Manar station said the incident was under investigation and claimed no one was killed in the blast.
