The half brother of Barack Obama lives on $1 a month

Life is hard if you're George Hussein Onyango Obama, the half brother of U.S. Presidential Candidate Barack Obama. George Obama lives in a cardboard shack in the slums located on the outskirts of Nairobi. Vanity Fair tracked down George Obama to see how he was doing.

George Obama is certainly not living the high life, not on the one dollar a month he has to survive on. George Obama is very embarrassed about just how poor he is, especially because his brother is so famous.

"I live like a recluse, no-one knows I exist," he told the magazine. "If anyone says something about my surname, I say we are not related. I am ashamed."

Barack Obama has only met George Obama in two occasions. George keeps a picture of Barack from a front page of a magazine in his cardboard shack. The 26 year old George has been indigent for years and is now basically fighting for his life in a very tough slum.

"Huruma is a tough place, last January during the elections there was rioting and six people were hacked to death. The police don't even arrest you they just shoot you," said George. "I have seen two of my friends killed. I have scars from defending myself with my fists. I am good with my fists."

Well, they say charity begins at home, but it hasn't apparently in this case. Hearing about what George is going through, you can't help but wonder why his brother Barack won't send the guy $20? I mean it would double his annual income.
