Barack Obama And John McCain House Wars

Barack Obama and John McCain battle it out over who's more out of touch

Barack Obama has really got John McCain this time. McCain slipped and said he didn't know how many house he and super-rich wife Cindy own. (Turns out it's 10, 9 more than you or me). Unfortunately, Barack Obama isn't exactly living in the median single family home in the U.S, either. His house cost $1.6 million and was picked up in a sweetheart deal with a convicted felon.

That's not exactly the way you and I purchase houses, is it? So when these two "out of touch" rich boys start pointing the finger at which one is "more" out of touch, they really lose my interest and start to detract from any message they might actually have.

The U.S. economy is hurting these days. But I'm not one of those people who only blame public policy for that. I have faith in capitalism and I know that economic downturns are just a fact of life for capitalistic societies. The U.S. is one country that almost always has its' "boom" periods followed by spectacular "busts", like the one we're seeing in the housing market. But it isn't really government's job to fix every damn problem that business or people run into. McCain and Obama will both be limited in what they can do to "fix" the economy. And clearly, based on their houses, they certainly are both very out of touch with the reality of average people.

In my opinion, these two would be well served to drop this line of rhetoric in favor of something useful. Even lame duck Bush and lame duck Congress are in there passing bills trying to stop the economic bleeding. Since a new President will be taking over in such a short time, perhaps it's time to get into the nuts and bolts of what policies will actually help our country regain it's financial edge, and leave the name-calling to the kindergartners, especially since both of you candidates are much richer that most of us.
