Israeli flag flies in Abu Dhabi

JERUSALEM, Oct. 15 (UPI) --

The Israeli flag flew for the first time in Abu Dhabi during an international energy conference attended by Israelis, the Foreign Ministry said.

While there are no diplomatic relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, the Israeli delegates participated in the International Renewable Energy Agency committee meeting, which began Monday, the ministry said.

Israeli delegates Simona Halperin, director of the ministry's human rights and international organizations, and Avraham Arbiv of the Ministry of Infrastructure were among 150 delegates from 70 countries at the meeting, the ministry said.

The UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Mohammed Gargash emphasized the importance of the cooperation of all member countries at the meeting that focused on preparing for the depletion of oil reserves in the future and diversifying the world's energy sources, the ministry said.
