Winehouse's dad says she's drug-free

LONDON, Oct. 20 (UPI) --

Amy Winehouse's father, Mitch Winehouse, says the British soul singer has been drug-free for a year after undergoing treatment in rehabilitation clinics.

The BBC said Mitch made the comments to the Home Affairs committee while discussing the cocaine trade, rehabilitation services and the current healthcare system in Britain -- topics covered in a documentary he is making.

"We were very fortunate. We were able to afford the best doctors, clinical psychologists, rehabilitation and hospitals," the BBC quoted Mitch as saying about Amy's battle with drugs, which has eclipsed her career in recent years. "We're making a film about people who can't afford it and, unfortunately, we found there are very few facilities and very little help available for people like that."
