Amy Winehouse's father says the British soul singer recently had breast-enhancement surgery.

Winehouse, 26, has earned several Grammy Awards, but her promising career was eclipsed by her bizarre behavior, legal problems and addiction to drugs. She has stayed out of the spotlight for the past year or so, while she focused on her health.

People.com quoted her father, Mitch Winehouse, as saying on Wednesday's edition of the British TV show "This Morning" that Amy is "fantastic, fantastic."

"Her boobs are great as well," he added. "I shouldn't have said that, should I? She looks absolutely fantastic."

Pressed to confirm whether the operation cost $56,000, as some media reports have suggested, he replied: "I don't know. I didn't have to pay for it. That's all I know. Whenever I see her, she says, 'Dad can you give me a couple of hundred?' (But) I didn't have to pay for the boobs."

Winehouse went on to describe his daughter's sobriety as "a slow, gradual recovery."

"If you look back to where we were a year ago, you know we are in a different planet," he said. "We are in a different space and a different time and a different person. We all are. We're all recovering."
