Kara DioGuardi has been named the newest American Idol judge

Kara DioGuardi, a Grammy-nominated songwriter, has picked to be a judge on the eight season of the show. Although Paula Abdul says she supported the choice of DioGuardi, she did express some misgivings.

""I am concerned about the audience and acceptance. Time will tell. We'll see," said Abdul about the choice of DioGuardi.

So far she and the new judge haven't had a chance to work together, so there's no telling what the chemistry will be when the show starts. That bridge will be crossed soon, because Abdul also said shooting started tomorrow.

One thing is for certain: having four judges instead of three will upset the normal balance of voting.

"That's gonna be weird if it's a split decision," she said. "I'm sure Simon will get to make the final call. It takes the fun out of all the hard work I do to push those kids through."
