Workers try to free man from storm grate

BALTIMORE, Oct. 27 (UPI) --

A Baltimore rescue team was working Tuesday to extricate a man who fell into a storm drain when a metal grate collapsed beneath him, officials said.

The man fell 12 to 15 feet and was complaining of abrasions and neck and back pain, said rescue officials who had reached the man.

The man was walking at the corner of Calvert and Saratoga streets when the grate gave way, Baltimore Fire Chief Kevin Cartwright told The Baltimore Sun. No one else was injured.
