Russia, India, China FMs meet

BANGALORE, India, Oct. 28 (UPI) --

The Foreign Ministers of Russia, India and China, meeting in Bangalore, agreed to cooperate on various including combating terrorism.

The ministers, S.M. Krishna of India, Yang Jia Chi of China and Sergey Lavrov of Russia, discussed terrorism in the context of the current situation in Afghanistan, Indian media reports said.

"The emphasis is on the need to render assistance to the government and people of Afghanistan in ensuring security and development, and restoring peace and stability and building a democratic, pluralistic and prosperous Afghanistan," said a joint statement from the ministers, the Indian Express reported.

The Times of India reported the three ministers, addressing international financial institutions, called for equitable distribution of voting power between developed countries and developing ones.

The demand for a greater role for India in the United Nation also came up.

"There is a need for a comprehensive reform of the United Nations with a view to make it more efficient so that it can deal with the current global challenges more effectively. Russia and China attach importance to the status of India in international affairs. We urge the world communities to understand and support India's aspirations to play a greater role in the United Nations,'' the Russian and Chinese ministers were quoted as saying.
