NBA: Houston 108, Golden State 107

OAKLAND, Calif., Oct. 29 (UPI) --

Luis Scola scored the last Houston points of the game with 2:48 remaining Wednesday and the Rockets held on down the stretch to defeat Golden State 108-107.

Scola's basket gave the Rockets a nine-point lead and they came close to giving the game away after losing their season-opener to Portland Tuesday.

After a layup by Stephen Curry brought the Warriors within three with 38 seconds to go, Houston's Aaron Brooks committed a traveling turnover. Anthony Morrow missed on a 3-point attempt with 3 seconds to go but Curry was there for the offensive rebound and laid it in with a second to go to leave the Warriors a point short.

Trevor Ariza scored 25 points in his second game with Houston and the Rockets staged a third-quarter rally to move in front. Ariza is playing for his fourth team and has been given a starting role after playing mainly off the bench for the Los Angeles Lakers last season.

Golden State owned a 10-point lead at halftime before the Rockets outscored the Warriors by 16 in the third period. Scola finished with 21 and Aaron Brooks had 16 for the Rockets.

Golden State was led by Monta Ellis with 26.
