NBA: Chicago 92, San Antonio 85

CHICAGO, Oct. 29 (UPI) --

Luol Deng led a balanced scoring effort with 17 points Thursday and the Chicago Bulls overcame a big night by Tim Duncan to defeat San Antonio 92-85.

Chicago, the next-to-last NBA team to open the new season, did so successfully thanks to a 21-6 run during the third period.

The only team yet to open its campaign is Milwaukee, which will get started Friday at Philadelphia.

Six Bulls scored in double figures, with Kirk Hinrich producing 14 and Tyrus Thomas and Derrick Rose 13 each.

Duncan, who was held to nine points in San Antonio's season-opening win over New Orleans, made 13-of-19 shots from the field, scored 28 points and claimed 16 rebounds. Manu Ginobili added 12 for the Spurs.

Chicago began the fourth quarter with a 10-point lead and the Spurs came no closer than the final score down the stretch.
