China turns to Web to reunite families

BEIJING, Oct. 30 (UPI) --

The Chinese government is using a Web site in an effort to locate the parents of children rescued from traffickers.

s of the children are posted by the Ministry of Public Security, CNN reported. The government has already tried and failed to match them with their parents through DNA databases.

"Even if I can't find my boy's photo on the Web site today, it's a blessing for desperate parents like us who have nearly lost hope," Tang Weihua told China Daily.

Tang's son vanished a decade ago at age 5.

About 2,000 children have been seized from traffickers this year, China Daily said. The government launched a crackdown on trafficking.

Some parents who sold their children are not anxious to be found.

Xinhua, the official government news agency, said three men arrested with a baby boy said they had bought him in Hebei Province. The government announced this week that break led to the arrests of dozens of people allegedly involved in a baby-trafficking ring that purchased at least 52 infants in the past two years from poor families in Hebei and Shanxi.
