NBA: Atlanta 100, Washington 89

ATLANTA, Oct. 30 (UPI) --

Josh Smith scored a team-high 20 points Friday, pacing the Atlanta Hawks' 100-89 win over the Washington Wizards.

Following an early 10-point deficit, Atlanta recovered and built a 58-44 halftime lead, fueled by a 9-0 run at the end of the first period, and never trailed in the second half.

A 6-0 run led to an insurmountable 93-78 lead with 4:22 left in the fourth period.

Joe Johnson scored 17 with five rebounds and six assists.

Reserve Jamal Crawford scored 16, Marvin Williams had 10 points with nine rebounds, Al Horford scored 10 with 12 rebounds. Johnson added five rebounds and six assists for the Hawks, have won six straight over the Wizards.

Gilbert Arenas led Washington with 23 points and four assists.

Brendan Haywood scored 19 with nine rebounds, and Andray Blatche scored 13 with six rebounds for the Wizards, who lost forward Caron Butler to a first-half knee injury.
