MADISON, Miss., Oct. 31 (UPI) --
The 2009 Viking Golf Classic, its course left unplayable by hammering rain, canceled this year's tournament Saturday.
The last time a PGA tournament was canceled and not rescheduled was the 1996 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. The Independent Insurance Agent Open, a tour event, was rained out in 1991.
"We tried every single thing we could possibly do to try to play golf," said tour official Slugger White. "It's just become impossible."
On Friday night, 1.75 inches of rain drenched Annandale Golf Club at Madison, Miss. On Saturday officials talked of beginning on Sunday, then decided to call it off.
