Canada arrests two suspected extremists

WINDSOR, Ontario, Nov. 1 (UPI) --

Two suspected Islamic extremists have been arrested in Ontario, Canadian officials said Sunday.

Police in Windsor, Ontario, said Mohammad Al-Sahli, 33, and Yassir Ali Kahn, 30, both from the Windsor area, were taken into custody Saturday "without incident," the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

Authorities said the pair would appear before a Superior Court judge to face extradition to the United States, where they have been charged with conspiracy to commit federal crimes. The FBI says the men are connected to a U.S. Sunni Arab group in Detroit that has allegedly expressed hatred for the government and has advocated violence.

The CBC said the arrests where made by the Immigration Task Force, working closely with Windsor police and the local Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
