Man retrieves BlackBerry from landfill

ASPEN, Colo., Nov. 1 (UPI) --

A man in Pitkin County, Colo., said he retrieved his BlackBerry from the county landfill after accidentally disposing of the phone with his yard's leaves.

Area resident Billy Boyd said his recent unusual journey began when he realized his BlackBerry had fallen out of his pocket while he was raking his yard and had been transported to the city of Aspen recycling center, the Aspen (Colo.) Daily News said Saturday.

While Boyd located his BlackBerry in a yard refuse bin at the center, a grate stopped him from being able to retrieve it. Adding to his predicament, his discovery came after City Hall's regular working hours.

In the wake of Tuesday's fruitless pursuit, Boyd was informed Wednesday morning that the bin had been emptied at the county landfill.

Undaunted, Boyd said he used his girlfriend's cell phone to search for his BlackBerry at the landfill and after a half an hour he was once again reunited with the device.

"I can't think of another time where it has worked out," solid waste manager Chris Hoofnagle told the Daily News of Boyd's successful search at the landfill.
