Tropical Storm Gustav is proving particularly deadly as it hits the Caribbean. Tropical Storm Gustav hit Jamaica with heavy rains and winds strong enough to rips the roofs off houses, after causing the deaths of 59 people in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Tropical Storm Gustav is expected to be a hurricane by Saturday.
Authorities in New Orleans, are already calling for a state of emergency for Monday, when the newly designated hurricane is expected to hit.
The US National Hurricane Center had said that Gustav might become a "major hurricane" by the time it hits Cuba tomorrow.
Officials in Haiti said the death toll might end up being worse because the flooding caused by Gustav was so severe that entire villages are now completely underwater.
There are thousands of Haitians now in emergency shelters due to Gustav. 6,000 people in the Dominican Republic are also without homes.
Devastation was particularly bad in the Dominican Republic and Haiti because it came so quickly on the heels of Tropical Storm Fay.
