Texans' tight end Daniels out for season

HOUSTON, Nov. 2 (UPI) --

Injured Houston Texans tight end Owen Daniels will undergo knee surgery and miss the rest of the season, Coach Gary Kubiak announced Monday.

Kubiak said Daniels has a torn ligament in his right knee.

Daniels, a Pro Bowl selection last season, was injured while running a pass route in Houston's 31-10 win over the Buffalo Bills Sunday.

"They're going to let the swelling go down over the course of the next 10-12 days and then schedule surgery, so surgery will probably be in about two weeks," Kubiak said. "Obviously, he's done for the season and a big blow to our football team."

The 6-3, 245-pound Daniels leads the team with five touchdown catches this season.

Daniels has 207 catches, 15 for touchdowns, and has gained 2,501 yards receiving in 54 games in his NFL career -- all with the Texans.
