WILLIAMSTON, S.C., Nov. 3 (UPI) --
Fumes from cans of roach killer may have killed a 10-month-old Williamston, S.C., boy and hospitalized his mother and brother, officials said.
"At the present time, we're tentatively leaning toward that, but we've still got a lot more to look at," Coroner Don McCown told The Greenville (S.C.) News in a story published Tuesday.
Jacob Whitfield suffered breathing problems Sunday but showed no signs of injury, trauma or neglect when he died later in the day of cardiac arrest at a hospital, McCown said.
The boy's mother Elizabeth Whitfield, and his 2-year-old brother, Kenneth Whitfield, were hospitalized Sunday with breathing problems after Elizabeth Whitfield used an over-the-counter insecticide, or "bug bomb" to treat a roach problem in the family's single-wide mobile home, police said.
Elizabeth Whitfield told rescue workers she used the bombs several times a week.
