N.Y. girl, 17, stabs police officer

NEW YORK, Nov. 3 (UPI) --

A 17-year-old New York girl was charged after allegedly stabbing her police-officer father, who intends to he press charges, police said.

The girl, Reyana Santiago and her father, Roberto Santiago, 39, argued Saturday morning when the 15-year NYPD veteran turned off his daughter's cell phone because he said she used it too much, the New York Post reported.

After the argument, Reyana sneaked up on Roberto and allegedly stabbed him in the arm, leaving two deep puncture wounds, the newspaper reported.

"He wasn't doing anything before I stabbed him. I was angry," Reyana allegedly told police.

Roberto was treated for the wounds at a medical center and released.

Reyana was charged with menacing, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon, all misdemeanors carrying a maximum sentence of one year in prison. She was let go on her own recognizance and is due back in court Nov. 23, the New York Post reported.

The Bronx District Attorney's Office said Roberto is pressing charges and will testify against Reyana if he case goes to trial.
