DICKINSON, N.D., Nov. 3 (UPI) --
Three female college students in North Dakota were found dead Tuesday in a pond two days after they called a friend, saying they were in trouble in the water.
Police said the bodies of Kyrstin Gemar, 22, of Lake Elsinore, Calif., Ashley Neufeld, 21, of Brandon, Manitoba, in Canada, and Afton Williamson, 20, of Grossmont, Calif., were found in a white Jeep Cherokee, The Dickinson Press reported.
The young women, all members of the softball team at Dickinson State University, were last heard from Sunday night. They called a friend, who said they sounded "hysterical" and talked about water.
The friend called police, but searchers could not pinpoint where they were when the last call was made.
Lenny Gemar told ABC's "Good Morning America" that his daughter and her friends liked to go out at night to look at the stars and talk.
"It's a pretty small town, doesn't have a real active nightlife," he said of Dickinson in southwest North Dakota, where the university is located.
