Charges expected in deadly Kansas accident

OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Nov. 4 (UPI) --

A 19-year-old woman was arrested and likely will face charges for a deadly car accident that killed a woman in Overland Park, Kan., police said.

Police spokesman Jim Weaver said the teenage suspect, whose identity was not reported, was arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter for the July 18 death of Sandra Carocari, 70, The Kansas City (Mo.) Star reported Wednesday.

Carocari was gardening on the front lawn of her home when she was struck by a car. Police allege while the car's driver fled the scene, the unidentified teen later returned with her parents and admitted she had been driving the vehicle.

Weaver said police are awaiting the results of blood and urine tests on the teen to determine if the teen was intoxicated at the time of the accident.

The Star said the suspect, who is being held on a $100,000 bond, could face charges ranging from leaving the scene of an accident to driving on the sidewalk in addition to involuntary manslaughter counts.
