JONEBORO, Ga., Nov. 5 (UPI) --
A Georgia mother may face charges of falsely reporting a crime after telling police her daughter had been kidnapped by the child's father, police said.
Cara Williams of Jonesboro, Ga., called police to her home Thursday to say her 1-year-old daughter, Sencerity Williams, had been kidnapped by the child's father, Sentwali Cory, who then took off in Cara Williams' car, WSB Radio, Atlanta, reported.
An Amber Alert and a several-hour manhunt for the child followed, which was called off when family members said the child has been safe for months in Maryland with her father, the child's legal custodian, WSB Radio reported.
"Right now we don't know why she did it, it's still being investigated," Kevin Hughes, a Clayton County Police Officer, said.
The mother is being held in the Clayton County Jail, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
