Rachel Christie Gives Up Her Miss England Crown After Arrest
21 year old Miss England Rachel Christie has announced she's giving up her crown in order to focus on clearing name after she was arrested for suspicion of commiting a nightclub assault.
"Due to the media attention following the allegations against her, Rachel Christie has now decided to withdraw from the Miss World competition and relinquish her Miss England crown," said contest organizers in a statement.
Christie is alleged to have punched Sara Beverley Jones, who holds the crown of Miss Manchester, in the face at a Manchester nightclub after the two were involved in an verbal disagreement.
"Rachel will concentrate on clearing her name and focus on training for the 2012 Olympics until this case is resolved," the statement continued.
Rachel Christie is also supposed to compete in the 2012 Olympics as a heptathlete.
