Deep earthquake registers near Fiji

SUVA, Fiji, Nov. 9 (UPI) --

A 6.8-magnitude earthquake rumbled near the island nation of Fiji Monday, but scientists said it was too deep to trigger a tsunami.

The quake was about 67 miles from Suva, Fiji, and 1,380 miles from Auckland, New Zealand, at a depth of about 359 miles, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

Officials told TVNZ the tremor was too deep to create a tsunami.
