Lil' Wayne Prepares For Prison
MIAMI, Fl., Nov.11 (TOTI) --

Dwayne Carter Jr., more commonly known by his stage name, Lil Wayne, is preparing to serve 8 months in prison for gun charges.

The 27 year old rapper could have faced 15 years in prison on weapons charges after authorities investigated the smell of marijuana coming from Lil' Wayne's tour bus after a performance at the Beacon Theater in New York in July 2007. A search of the bus turned up a loaded .40 caliber pistol and resulted in felony charges against him.

Lil Wayne plead guilty to lesser charges of attempted possession of a weapon to qualify for the shorter sentence.

A source at Cash Money records told Rolling Stone magazine, "Nobody expected this. But he's staying positive."

Lil Wayne is expected to begin his sentence in February 2010.

Lil Wayne's lawyer told the magazine, "He was well informed throughout , and he made a choice of how he wished to resolve the situation. He decided to take responsibility."

Ahead of his prison stint, Lil Wayne has been keeping busy by working in the studio. He's currently working on three different albums and
a mixtape.

Dre, a frequent collaborator with Wayne is already looking to the future and Wayne's release. "It's going to be unreal when he gets out because that's eight months of him not being able to do what he loves, which is record music."

Lil Wayne's rock inspired album Rebirth is expected to be released on December 15, 2009.
