Hurricane Ike Now Category 4

Hurricane Ike has now been designated a Category 4 hurricane. A Category 4 hurricane is said to be "extremely dangerous." Hurricane Ike now has winds of 135mph.

Hurricane Ike is the fifth major storm of the Atlantic season for 2008. The National Hurricane Center said Ike is currently a threat in the Caribbean, following a track somewhat similar to the other hurricanes we've seen recently.

Currently Hurricane Ike's center is about 620 miles northwest of the Leeward Islands and is moving west-northwest at about 17 mph. Right now there's no immediate threat to land, but with a storm of this magnitude, officials are somewhat concerned.

Hurricane Ike is following behind Tropical Storm Hanna, which may threaten the southeastern coast of the U.S. by this weekend. Tropical Storm Josephine is following behind Hurricane Ike.

The 2008 Atlantic storm season has been very active, especially in the last few weeks.
