John McCain took the floor at the Republican National Convention and gave his acceptance speech as the Republican Presidential candidate for the upcoming 2008 election. McCain's acceptance speech was nearly an hour long and he expressed his thanks to his family, his country and his supporters.
He talked lovingly of his wife Cindy, his seven children and his 96 year old mother. McCain even showed respect for his Democratic opponent, Barack Obama but said he plans to win the Presidency.
His speech resonated with the common man, McCain said that he knew that many Americans are facing tough economic times and that as a President he plans to "stand by Americans side, and not in their way."
McCain's running mate, Sarah Palin, the Governor of Alaska, is the first female to run for Vice President in Republican party history. She is the mother of 5 children and was the mayor of Wasilla, Alaska from 1996 -2003.
The Republican National Convention ended yesterday, with McCain's acceptance speech being the highlight of the night.
