Storm Watch Called For East Coast Of U.S.

WASHINGTON, Sept. 5 (TOTI) -- A storm watch has been put in effect for states along the East Coast of the United States. Tropical Storm Hannah, which hit Haiti in dramatically deadly fashion, is expected to pound Eastern states in the next several days.

THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER IS ISSUING ADVISORIES ON TROPICAL STORM HANNA...LOCATED ABOUT 425 MILES SOUTH OF WILMINGTON NORTH CAROLINA...ON HURRICANE IKE...LOCATED ABOUT 460 MILES NORTH OF THE LEEWARD ISLANDS...AND ON TROPICAL STORM JOSEPHINE...LOCATED ABOUT 665 MILES WEST OF THE SOUTHERNMOST CAPE VERDE ISLANDS.

A tropical storm watch actually means a development is expected within the next 36 hours. Right now, storm watchers are more concerned with Tropical Storm Ike then they are with Hurricane Ike, which has weakened considerably to Category 3, but is still considered very dangerous.

The National Hurricane Center is not the only organization concerned with Ike. Fema is also worried that the storm may cause significant damage.

"Ike looks like it's a very, very dangerous storm," David Paulison of Fema.

If you are concerned that your area could be affected by a tropical storm or hurricane, please visit the National Hurricane Center and enter your zip code to receive the latest forecast.
