BOGOTA, Oct. 25 (UPI) --
The former head of Colombian intelligence says neither she nor President Alvaro Uribe ordered agents to spy on Uribe's political rivals.
Maria del Pilar Hurtado resigned Friday as head of Das after admitting her agents spied on Uribe's left-wing political opponents, the BBC reported Saturday.
"The country still can and should count on the Das," Hurtado said. "It would not be fair for the work of hundreds of agents to be stained by the actions of a few."
Opposition Sen. Gustavo Petro last week accused Das of monitoring his movements and spying on other members of his Democratic Pole party, the BBC reported.
Hurtado has been replaced as head of Das by Joaquin Polo, the current deputy head of the intelligence agency's Administrative Security Department.
