Cliff Gullett Dies In Speed Attempt At Bonneville Salt Flats
Cliff Gullett, 49, of Montana was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle while attempting to break a speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.
The American Motorcycle Association stated that Gullett was competing in a 500cc class time trial speed racing event when he crashed his motorcycle. Police officials stated that he was traveling at 239 MPH prior to the crash.
The Bonneville Salt Flats have been used for many years for land speed races and was made famous when Sir Malcolm Campbell broke the land speed record there in September 1935 while driving his car, named the Bluebird over 300 miles per hour.
