Hurricane Ike Lashes Turks And Caicos Islands

Hurricane Ike has visited the Turks and Caicos Islands and the island is worse for the encounter. By the time Hurricane Ike hit Turks and Caicos, its' winds were 135mph and the storm was designated a dangerous Category 4 hurricane.

Residents of Turks and Caicos knew Ike was coming and did their best to batten down the hatches in Providenciales before the massive storm arrived.

Thousands of tourists and locals evacuated the island. As the storm got closer, officials closed the airport in Providenciales.

According to the U.S. National Hurricane Center, Ike's core should move through the southeastern Bahamas this morning and then move near or over eastern Cuba later today.

Cuba and Haiti, which have been hit very hard this tropical storm season, have both issued warnings about Ike.
