Hurricane Ike Smashes Cuba

Hurricane Ike smashed Cuba, causing severe damage to the Caribbean island. Now it's thought that Ike will regroup and head to the oil-refining Gulf Coast region, put in peril the nation's energy supply.

Hurricane Ike is now being classified as a Category 2 hurricane, with sustained winds of 100mph. Cuba and Haiti have both been hard hit by Ike, as well as by Gustav and Hannah. Ike is responsible for the deaths of 47 people in Haiti.

The government of Cuba has now issued warnings for provinces located in Guantanamo west through Matanzas.

Ike is causing concern in the Bahamas and Florida. Both places have issued warnings about the potential for damage. A warning means that's conditions are expected to happen within 36 hours.

Residents of the Florida Keys are now considering evacuation.
