Hurricane Ike continues his destructive path and as he heads towards the Gulf of Mexico, officials in Texas have prompted an evacuation of people that have medical conditions before the storm makes landfall.
Officials in Texas are setting up evacuation routes as soon as 9:00 AM on Wednesday. One million people in the Rio Grande Valley are expected to be ordered out of the area. Texas Governor Rick Perry declared 88 coastal counties a disaster area ahead of the storm to start the flow of state aid on Monday.
The state is currently setting up busing for those that don't have the means to evacuate via a private vehicle.
Hurricane Ike is currently a category 1 hurricane that's located about 230 miles north of Cuba with winds of 85 miles per hour. It's likely that Ike could strengthen as it travels across the Gulf of Mexico and could be a category 4 storm by Saturday, when it's predicted to hit the shores.
Hurricane Ike tore across Cuba on Tuesday leaving floods and devastation in its' wake. Over 1 million people evacuated their homes and at least four people were killed as a result of this strong storm. Some Cuban provinces remain under a tropical storm warning as storm surges could cause more flooding.
