WASHINGTON, Nov. 7 (UPI) --
A large number of federal workers across the United States have become frustrated or feel demoralized and are "waiting for leadership," experts warn.
Jeff Ruch of the Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility said while many federal workers expressed increased frustration under the administration of President George W. Bush, there is hope regarding the next president's tenure, The Washington Post said Thursday.
"Many we talk to are weary, but cautiously optimistic that with this change in administrations they will get to do their job again," Ruch said, referring to the incoming administration of President-elect Barack Obama.
Among the complaints from federal workers were large budget cuts and a lack of acceptable leadership.
John Kamensky, an IBM Center for the Business of Government transition expert, told the Post many civil servants nationwide are desperate for leadership from the new head of state.
"We've been saying that for a year -- the administration checked out early," Kamensky said. "I am hearing people (civil servants) are demoralized and waiting for some leadership."
