Fire damages historic Scottish inn
KIRRIEMUIR, Scotland, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Fire has gutted a 200-year-old historic Scottish hotel, the Airlie Arms Hotel in Kirriemuir.

About 30 firefighters worked to halt the blaze Thursday, Forfar Today reported. The fire began in a storage area and was first reported by a passerby who spotted smoke.

The hotel manager and two employees escaped without injury. Three residents had gone for the day by the time the fire was reported.

Inspector Gordon Milne of Tayside Police said firefighters might go through the building using heat-seeking equipment. He said there were concerns because of the building's age that wood might be smoldering and at risk of flaring up once more.

The Airlie Arms building housed a monastery and then a brewery before becoming a coaching inn.
