Why I Am Endorsing Barack Obama and Joe Biden For President and Vice President

I never thought that I would live to see the day that Canada's money would be worth more than the United States, or that I would actually spend over $4 dollars for a gallon of gas. My daughter and I bet each other now on how much the grocery bill will come to for entertainment purposes because it's takes the shock out of the grand total where we buck our eyes at each other and say at the say time, "what did we buy?" I am averaging $200 to $260 bi-weekly in groceries.

To me, this upcoming election is as important in American history as the Civil War. I can't believe that some people thought that slavery was an evolved, intelligent way to treat another human being and were willing to fight and die for the right to oppress, and dominate them. Our country is now fighting for a similar type issue but the same logic applies. The fundamental issues are about human compassion, empathy and caring about global warming, endangered species to families who can't afford to feed their loved ones because their jobs are shipped overseas.

This presidential election 2008 is about people who are pro -lifers who support people dying and killing other people in the Iraq war. How can they logically support the creation of life while never speaking out against the destruction of life? Most of our homeless population is war veterans; there are thousands of poor minority children who need food, homes or to be adopted. They care about the fetus only when it's inside of the mother's womb. When the child is born, these same pro-lifers are not out advocating for extended parental leave, or lowering the cost of baby formula and day care. Why aren't pro-lifers out advocating for equal pay for equal work for women so that they can better afford to provide for their child? Why the hell aren't they out there protesting the war where on a daily basis people are losing their lives? Spare me the hypocrisy.

America has over 22 million people in jail, more than any country in the world. Why don't they care about the people who are behind bars because many of them were raised in severe poverty and broken homes.

People argued that the world was flat when indeed the world is round. This is an election between the educated and the uniformed; the evolved and the un-evolved, the ignorant and the enlightened, those who want peace and those who want war; those who are benefitting from high oil prices and those who aren't. This is not a presidential election between Republicans and Democrats this is an election between what policies is going to be for the greater good of all or the selfish few.

I am going to be very, very honest, I am an extremely selfish person, I mainly care about the well-being of my loved ones. I don't want anybody carjacking me, stealing my money, or breaking into my home.

We don't live in a society where an individual can say, screw the government; I am going to build a tent out of animal hide, hunt and fish, pick fresh fruits and grow my own vegetables. All the land is owned by the government and wealthy people, so they would be required to pay taxes on the land-but what if they can't because their job was sent overseas? People cannot pick apples and berries off of trees because the trees belong to someone else. They would be fined for trespassing on private property. People without jobs or money cannot hunt or fish without a license. Human beings cannot cultivate and live off the land because everything has been taken by the government, corporations or private owners.

Human beings are no longer free in modern, technologically advanced societies. When we ship jobs overseas, close plants and are not concerned about how our neighbor is going to eat, have shelter and feed his family; we must be thinking that these hungry people will go into the woods and build a fire (on a camp ground with a fee).

What people don't seem to care about or realize is that people who are desperately, hungry and with no money or job-- are coming to rob, kill and steal from our asses. When the economy is bad there is always an increase in crime. And since we have proven to them that we don't give a damn about their well-being, why should they give a damn about ours.

Back to why I am selfish, I don't know if I truly care about other people's well -being, but I know for sure that when other people are able to have health insurance, food, shelter and clothes they are less likely to harm me and my loved ones. We live in a society where we are our brother's keeper. I want other people to have the same blessings and benefits that my loved ones and I enjoy. I wish for others all the wealth, love and joy that I wish for myself.

This is why I am endorsing Barack Obama and Joe Biden for President of the United States.
