China college cholera quarantine lifted

HAINAN, China, Nov. 10 (UPI) --

College students in Hainan, China, have returned to their classrooms after a weeklong cholera quarantine, officials said Monday.

Hainan University in south China's Hainan Province was closed after a cholera outbreak centered in the school's cafeterias, Xinhua, the state-run Chinese news agency, reported.

The cafeterias were disinfected and the campus was reopened to visitors after no new cases were reported for eight consecutive days, school officials said.

Thirty-one students were hospitalized in the outbreak, with seven still under care. Doctors say the students are expected to recover soon. Eighty-four other students who were under observation at the university clinic were allowed to return to class, officials said.
