Deadheads For Obama

The Grateful Dead has long been known for socially conscious music, but they haven't come out and endorsed any political candidates in their four decades long career.

The current band members have been famous for their feuds and squabbling, but it looks like the campaign of Barack Obama is inspiring them to bury the hatchet and re-unite in support of the candidate.

At a press conference, 3 members of the band pronounced their enthusiasm for the Illinois Senator. They were seated under a sign that said "Deadheads for Obama 2008".

"I think that we all knew Obama was the guy for us, but we hadn't talked about it because we'd all been doing our own thing," said the band's bassist Phil Lesh, 67.

The last time hope was in the air, it was ended by a bullet," Weir said, referring to Robert Kennedy, the assassinated Presidential candidate. "We've been reluctant to do political events all along."

They still have very loyal fans. "Long live the Dead!" said Ron Svetlik, 51. Fans like Svetlik are expected to be influenced by the group's decision to support Obama.
