MOSCOW, Nov. 13 (UPI) --
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Thursday he intends to fill out his four-year term refuting media reports he might resign next year.
Medvedev's intentions were called into question when he last week proposed extending the presidential term from four to six years, RIA Novosti reported.
Some Russian politicians saw the proposal as a pretext for former President Vladimir Putin, now the prime minister, to return to the presidential office as early as next year if Medvedev were to step aside, RIA Novosti reported.
Medvedev, however, Thursday said he has no plans to step down and Putin Wednesday said he has no plans to run again for president, RIA Novosti reported.
The Russian parliament is expected to quickly approve Medvedev's request for the presidential term extension, which would take effect after Medvedev's current term, RIA Novosti reported.
