Ray Whitney had a power-play goal in the third period and Cam Ward made 28 saves Tuesday to lead Carolina to a 2-1 win over Montreal.

Sergei Samsonov also scored for Carolina.

Robert Lang scored the only goal for Montreal, which has lost three of its last four games. Carey Price made 46 saves in defeat.
