A con man who married his second and third wives without divorcing his first has avoided a long prison term in Florida for bigamy.

George W. Dumstorf Jr. pleaded no contest to bigamy Monday in Tampa, Fla., the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times reported. Under the plea deal, his sentence will be concurrent with a 27-month term given him when he pleaded guilty to federal bank fraud charges in Kentucky.

Dumstorf married for the first time in 1960. Over the years, he pretended to be a high-ranking military officer or NASA administrator and failed to tell women he met that he was legally married.

In 2000, Martha-Irene Weed, a Florida divorce lawyer, represented Dumstorf in his divorce from wife No. 2, Judy Howell, who had been married to him for 16 years. Weed later married him herself and is now seeking an annulment, the newspaper said.

Dumstorf's lawyer blamed Weed for her troubles, saying she advised her husband he was legally free to marry her.

Valerie Gaines, Howell's daughter, said Dumstorf is escaping any real punishment for his marital wrongdoing.

"He'll be in a country club for 27 months," she told the Times.
