NHL: Los Angeles 5, Washington 2

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 21 (UPI) --

The Los Angeles defense limited Washington to 21 shots Thursday and Erik Ersberg stopped 19 of them to bring the Kings a 5-2 win over the Capitals.

Ersberg made his eighth consecutive start, a span in which he has allowed just 15 goals.

Dustin Brown gave Los Angeles a 3-1 lead with 6:06 to play with a power-play goal that turned out to be the game-winner when Brooks Laich beat Ersberg with a wrist shot less than two minutes later.

The Kings scored twice in the final 40 seconds, once into an empty net and once on a shorthanded situation just before the final horn.

Los Angeles has scored five goals in two straight games after having managed to do so only twice before during the entire season. The Kings went into the game tied for the fewest goals in the Western Conference at 42.

Brent Johnson allowed four of the LA goals on 32 shots.
